Distress Tolerance Skills Class -  8 Week Program, Thursdays 5:30 - 7:00pm. (Click on the REGISTRATION link on the left navigation bar to register.)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) combines behavioral therapy with mindfulness practice. DBT training courses teach skills that will help you to reduce the intensity and frequency of overwhelming emotions, while also offering guidance for navigating distressing moments.  DBT can help with challenges including anxiety and depression, issues with food, negative self-image, and difficulty with interpersonal relationships. There are three modules: Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Each begins with two weeks of mindfulness training and are designed to help participants learn new and more effective coping skills to regulate emotions and choose more effective behaviors to reach their goals.

This module will begin with mindfulness training to help you learn to watch your thoughts without getting “caught up.”  You will learn to stay in the present moment without judgment, helping you to respond verses react to triggering events.

Distress tolerance skills will help you to survive crisis situations without making things worse, accepting reality as it is.  You will learn to tolerate painful events, urges, and emotions when you cannot solve things right away. You will be able to better manage anxiety and other painful emotions helping you to cope with short or long term pain.
